Put That Coffee Down

I know, I know, you like your coffee…but what if it doesn’t even work anymore to get the boost you need to get through your day?  Do you know that the extra caffeine is stripping your body of essential nutrients while actually making your body more tired, more overworked, in other words…depleted??

Check out this video,  Best Herbs for Energy, Using Natural Herbal Stimulants  which not only gives you ideas on natural ways to boost energy but also discusses the harmful effects of our over consumption of stimulants including coffee.  (Don’t worry, coffee is good in moderation.)

Too Much Caffeine

There are plenty of natural ways to boost energy.  I can tell you first hand that I learned the hard way time and time again how stimulants like caffeine, when over consumed, cause more harm than good.

When I started a high intense job and workout regimen, I tried caffeine from different sources to keep me going throughout the day.  For the first few days, it seemed to do the trick, even with a lack of sleep.  But sooner than desired, I felt completely drained almost any given moment.

Nurture Your Body

I found out that through listening to various mentors, as well as my own body that all I really needed was good nutrition, fresh air, exercise and more water.

Whether you believe it or not, our bodies have been designed to heal themselves.  It is scientifically proven that our bodies have a detox cycle every single day.  So, the less junk we put into it, the more we are able to cleanse and start fresh…every…single…day.

Detox

That’s why you keep hearing people talk about things like drinking lemon water first thing in the morning.  It’s actually that simple to start the detox process.

For a more complete, whole body cleanse with additional probiotics, I choose the BioCleanse Detox Kit.   If you do this, please know that for the first couple of days, you may feel really crappy.  Any garbage that you were taking in, has to leave and sometimes the exit door is not friendly.  I’m not even talking about bowel movements.  You will actually be cranky.  Yup!  Very cranky!

However, after your cleanse is over, you will feel much better and have more energy.  After the first time I did a cleanse, I began making wiser food choices.  It became easier to understand which foods were fueling my body and which foods were bringing me down or making me sick.

Natural Remedies

Detox aside, here is a list of suggested, holistic doctor approved, natural remedies to increase energy:

Taking a walk in fresh air

Light to moderate exercise or stretching

Fresh cold-pressed organic juice or ‘juicing’

Little to no processed foods

Limited alcohol, drug and caffeine consumption

Drinking lots of purified water

My ‘go to’ – APPLES

Herbal Remedies

If you feel that you need an extra boost or if you are beginning a new workout regimen, I suggest the following herbs or vitamins to help increase energy.  (None of these contain caffeine but please consult your doctor or specialist before consuming.)

Rhodiola

Schizandra

Ashwagandha

Ginger

Maca

Siberian Ginseng (do not use if you have high blood pressure)

Cordyceps and/or Reishi Mushrooms

Vitamin C

B-Complex

Aromatherapy oils (Peppermint, Rosemary, Lemon, Orange or any uplifting blends)

Nutrient Deficiency

It’s important to make sure that you are not deficient of any particular vitamin or mineral.  Like I mentioned earlier, caffeine may deplete your body of needed nutrients.

Furthermore, some people aren’t able to break down or absorb nutrients properly.  Vitamin B12, which assists with energy production, is a great example.   Harvard explains the signs of deficiency and what could cause this:  Vitamin B12 deficiency can be sneaky, harmful .

Also, our soil isn’t as rich as it used to be due to modern farming techniques and the use of chemicals.  (Check out my previous blog: Organic Farming. )  This significantly affects our intake of trace minerals and beneficial bacteria which helps to explain why we may literally feel out of balance.

Minerals are important especially when it comes to our pH levels.  An overacidic body is an unhealthy one.  Considering a plant based diet, using trace mineral drops for purchase at your local health store or switching out your regular table salt with pink himalayan sea salt  are all solutions for alkalizing your diet.

Healthy Bacteria

Another way to bring your body back into balance is with probiotics.  Having low energy or fatigue is a major symptom of overgrowth of bad yeast in your body.  Besides limiting your intake of refined sugars and carbs, probiotics will help your body regain it’s needed healthy bacteria levels.
