Cells and Aging
Even with the most nutrient dense diet, it’s impossible to always feel absolutely amazing.
Let’s get real. Â We age. Â Yeah, I know, duh, right?
What do you think of regarding aging? Â Maybe…joint pain or wrinkles…ugh.
As we age, we begin to experience changes in our cells which become apparent when we notice things such as wrinkles, because skin becomes thinner and we lose fat in our face. Also, your bones and muscles become weaker.  Your memory gets a bit wonky, and your immune system cannot fight disease as easily.
Nutrition
Are there foods that we should focus on to reduce the aging process?
ABSOLUTELY!  Much research has been done on certain foods and especially certain ‘superfoods’ which allow for peak performance and stamina. Also, foods that are rich in antioxidants inhibit the oxidation of molecules in our body.
“Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, leading to chain reactions that may damage cells.” – Wikipedia.com
Let’s look at a list of well known foods (including drinks, herbs and spices) that have good to high antioxidant levels:
Dark chocolate or cacao
Berries (Strawberries, goji, blueberries, amla, blackberries, acai, etc.)
Green tea
Plums
Walnuts
Spinach
Kombucha
Kale
Olives
Beets
Fresh herbs or spices such as oregano or cinnamon
There are also many natural supplements or extracts which contain skyrocket amounts of antioxidants.
Antioxidant Rich Supplements
Grape seed extract
Coq10 or Ubiquinol
Green tea extract
Various ‘superfood‘ formulas
ACES (Vitamins A, C, E plus Selenium)
Glutathione
Resveratrol
and the list goes on….
But what if there was one single natural supplement which took cellular health to the next level towards optimal health?
My answer is MSM or methyl-sulfonyl-methane.
MSM
MSM which is made up of 34% sulfur is the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body. Â Sulfur is present in all living tissue.
It is a vital building block of amino acids and connective tissue including joints, cartilage, skin, hair, and nails.
MSM also supports many essential metabolic processes in the body.
MSM provides a variety of health benefits and is utilized to repair, rebuild, rejuvenate, strengthen and cleanse the cells of the body.
The health benefits of MSM supplementation include the following:
Increase collagen production for healthy hair, skin, nails and joints
Repair intestinal damage
Detoxification
Enhanced circulation
Mental clarity
Anti-Inflammatory response
Reduced allergy symptoms
Reduced arthritis pain
Increased recovery time from sports injury
Reduced chances of bladder disorders
Improved digestion
Dosage
Because MSM comes in both capsule, tablet and powder form, I recommend following dosage instructions on the container or bottle.
Generally I recommend only 1 gram which is equal to 1,000 mg per day to start. Â You may increase gradually after the first few days up to 3 or 4 grams.
DO NOT take a large dose to start off with because you will have a rapid detoxification response.
I also highly recommend taking MSM alongside Vitamin C for enhanced benefits.
To purchase MSM supplements, check out your local health food or independently owned vitamin store. Most likely they will carry a variety of products to choose from for your specific health needs.
